An Evening of Glass: A benefit concert for Virginia Opera honoring composer Philip Glass

This event will feature performances of Philip Glass’ music by principal artists in Virginia Opera’s Orphée. Baritone Matthew Worth, soprano Sara Jakubiak, tenor Jeffrey Lentz, soprano Heather Buck, and tenor Jonathan Blalock will sing and Virginia Opera Resident Conductor, Adam Turner will accompany on piano. Following these performances there will be a conversation with Maestro Glass about his music, a special performance by the composer, and a reception, giving attendees an opportunity to meet Mr. Glass and the other artists. This event is open to the public. Tickets are one hundred dollars a person and may be purchased by calling the Virginia Opera box office at 1.866.OPERA.VA (1.866.673.7282) or online at www.vaopera.org/philipglass.
This event will take place at La Maison Française located at the Embassy of France, 4101 Reservoir Rd. NW Washington, DC 20007.

The Mikado Backstage Tour

2:00pm- - Join us for a backstage tour at the historic Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, Virginia. During the tour learn about the technical aspects of mounting a professional theatrical opera production. The tour includes such detail as the stage, set, fly system, lighting, wig shop, and costumes. As we explore the elements of live opera, we will also delve into the history of the Harrison Opera House and find out what is tradition or myth. Certain aspects of the tour may change pending on the time of year and the production calendar.
