Pirates have taken over Norfolk!

What's that you say? An invasion?

Our very own opera house has been commandeered by pirates! Those commuting into downtown Norfolk this morning will verify that thousands of Jolly Roger flags have sprung up throughout the downtown area to mark the arrival of those wild and wacky PIRATES OF PENZANCE!

What the pirates have demanded:

• 21% DISCOUNT
  As a 21st birthday present to their favored apprentice, Frederic, the pirates have declared a 21% discount all day long on select tickets to their upcoming performances in Norfolk — but only for those who bring one of their flags to the Harrison Opera House. (They mentioned that the flags can be found throughout downtown Norfolk, but that you can also bring one clipped from ads in The Virginian-Pilot and Link, or even one that you download and print yourself.)
  
  
• BACKSTAGE PASSES
  The pirates will enter everyone who brings a flag and purchases a ticket into a drawing in which more than one winner will have a chance to go backstage after a performance, get pictures with their favorite pirates, meet the artists and conductor, and have their program signed.
  
  
• 2008-2009 SEASON TICKETS
  There will also be a special drawing for a subscription to our 2008-2009 season, no purchase necessary. These pirates are loony!

Swing by the Harrison Opera House today, and you might find some of these people also having a jolly old time:

• Moody Crewe 
  This local fun-loving crew of "professional" pirates will be on deck from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., then 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Starting at 5 p.m., they present School the Pirate free for kids under 12 to teach them all about being a pirate — handy for those dressing as pirates on Halloween!
  
  
• Glenn Winters, Pirate PhD
  Our resident nutty professor of opera and all things piratical, Mr. Winters will be at the opera house all day to share with seafarers and landlubbers alike his special views and knowledge of Gilbert & Sullivan, those crazy Pirates of Penzance, and the worlds of opera and music. The man definitely has pirate in his blood!
