Virginia Opera Opens 2012-13 Season with Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers

September 5, 2012 – Virginia Opera, The Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia, will open its 2012-13 Season with Georges Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, Va., followed by additional performances in Norfolk, Richmond and Fairfax, Va.

Virginia Opera establishes The Joan B. Miller Fund

NORFOLK, Va. (August 15, 2012) – Virginia Opera has established The Joan B. Miller Fund to honor the life and work of Joan Barbara Miller, who served as President of Virginia Opera from 2009 through 2011 and for many years on the Opera’s Statewide Board of Directors. Miller passed away Monday. Among her many contributions to Virginia Opera, Miller was a tireless proponent of bringing preeminent conductors from around the nation and the world to lead the Company’s productions.

NORFOLK, Va. – Virginia Opera, The Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is excited to announce single tickets for the 2012-13 Season will go on sale Monday, August 6, 2012. The 2012-13 Season features four operas that delve into classic themes of love, jealousy and revenge. The Opera is also offering a special presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved musical Carousel in conjunction with the 2013 Virginia Arts Festival.

Virginia Opera Announces Director Emeritus Appointment

NORFOLK, Va. – After serving for 18 years on the Board of Directors of Virginia Opera, The Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the title of Director Emeritus has been conferred unanimously on Mrs. Joan Barbara Miller. Mrs. Miller joined the Virginia Opera Board of Directors in 1995. She is the immediate past-president of the Statewide Board of Directors of the Virginia Opera and currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee. Mrs. Miller served as Board President from 2009 through 2011 and helped steer Virginia Opera through the first transition in artistic leadership in the company's 38-year history.
