September 5, 2012 – Virginia Opera, The Official Opera Company of the Commonwealth of Virginia, will open its 2012-13 Season with Georges Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk, Va., followed by additional performances in Norfolk, Richmond and Fairfax, Va.
NORFOLK, Va. (August 15, 2012) – Virginia Opera has established The Joan B. Miller Fund to honor the life and work of Joan Barbara Miller, who served as President of Virginia Opera from 2009 through 2011 and for many years on the Opera’s Statewide Board of Directors. Miller passed away Monday. Among her many contributions to Virginia Opera, Miller was a tireless proponent of bringing preeminent conductors from around the nation and the world to lead the Company’s productions.

The 2012-13 Season features four operas that delve into classic themes of love, jealousy and revenge. The Opera is also offering a special presentation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved musical Carousel in conjunction with the 2013 Virginia Arts Festival.
